2 Reasons To Hire A Chimney Sweep To Take Care Of Your Chimney

by Joyce Rivera

Having a chimney means that you need to do some routine maintenance on it. Keeping your chimney clean isn't just going to make sure that it is more efficient, but it will also make sure that your chimney is safer. Over the fall and winter, as you have exhaust going out from the chimney, either from fires or from your furnace, you are going to get a build-up on the sides of your chimney. Creosote and soot will accumulate on the walls of your chimney. Those things are actually dangerous because they can cause a fire in your chimney, and you might not know that there is a fire there until it's too late for you to do anything. The best way to handle it is to have a chimney sweep come out to your house on a yearly basis.

Better Ventilation

Better ventilation doesn't just mean that you are going to get better fires because the draw is going to be better, but it also means that you are going to have more ventilation when it comes to getting rid of things like smoke, exhaust gases, and toxic gases that come from fires. Things like carbon monoxide can get in your house and they can be deadly, so having your chimney draw those gases out from your house is going to keep you safer.

Get Rid of Animals

Animals are always going to want to find someplace safe and warm to live, especially mothers with babies. Your chimney can be that perfect place for them. Birds are notorious for nesting in chimneys, but they aren't the only creatures that will hide in your chimney. Raccoons and opossums also like the safety that your chimney provides. Raccoons may actually get into your house if the flue damper isn't closed, and that can be a huge mess that you don't really want to happen in your house. Once the raccoons discover that they can get into your house and find easy food and have a safe place to live in your chimney, it's going to be really hard to get rid of them. But a chimney sweep can make sure that there aren't any animals getting into your chimney and they can put grates in your chimney to make sure nothing can get in there.

If you have a chimney, you need to make sure that you are getting it serviced regularly. Call a chimney sweep for more information.
